Cardiac Care Introduction

VHI'S CARDIAC CARE INFORMATION will help you learn more about Virginia hospitals that treat heart disease.

Why is this information important? Heart disease and stroke are the number one causes of death in Virginia. One out of seven hospital stays are for cardiac care. If you need heart care, VHI's information on the experience and success of hospitals and physicians may help you compare and choose health care providers. More...

What information is available? Some studies show that experienced hospitals and physicians have better results in heart care. Our reports show how often hospitals provide cardiac care. You will also find how often patients die or must be hospitalized again within 30 days. To find the care you need, VHI reports group cardiac care into three Cardiac Care Service Lines. These groups include medical care for heart disease and heart surgery.

Is it fair to compare different hospitals? Some patients are very sick and more likely to die or be readmitted for more care. VHI worked with scientists, hospitals and doctors to fairly compare care between hospitals. Be sure to discuss this and other information with your doctor.
