LIMITATIONS OF THIS REPORT
VHI developed this Cardiac Care information slowly, over several years. Our goal was to provide useful information that, when coupled with other information and discussion with your doctor, can lead to more informed decisions regarding care you or others need.

The information used in these Cardiac Care reports is based upon data submitted by hospitals. VHI employed a methodology that considered the diagnoses, procedures, age, sex and other factors to fairly compare patients treated at one hospital to those treated at others. Because the system depends upon information provided by hospitals, the system can be influenced if hospitals do not report all conditions accurately. The system also does not include the results of certain tests that can be helpful in predicting how well a patient may do when undergoing certain types of care.

Over the course of several years, VHI worked with hospitals to refine this system and make all adjustments possible to compare hospitals fairly. The data in this report is based upon Virginia hospital discharges occurring during the calendar year 2005. Hospitals were provided this Cardiac Care data on two different occasions to allow them to review the information prior to release. In some cases they provided comments which you may view when you review an individual hospital’s profile.

VHI believes this Cardiac Care information serves best as a starting point for comparing hospitals and as a tool for discussion with your care provider. Decisions on where to go for care should be made using a wide variety of information based on your needs. Governing Law
