Each year, VHI collects and publishes Licensure and Utilization Data from hospitals and healthcare facilities across Virginia. This dataset is a cornerstone of the Certificate of Public Need (COPN) process, which guides decisions about adding or expanding healthcare services in the Commonwealth.

By consolidating annual, facility-level metrics such as patient volume, available beds and types of care offered, VHI’s Licensure and Utilization Data helps identify where resources are needed most. The data also supports the State Medical Facilities Plan, which relies on these insights to evaluate healthcare needs in every district and region.
